A man was found dead Saturday night following a report of a shooting at the Germantown Square Urban Park, Montgomery County Police said.

Police called it the first homicide in Germantown in 2025.

County officers and the Maryland National Capital Park Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report at about 11 p.m. of a shooting at Germantown and Middlebrook roads.

Police identified the victim as Kendall Butler, 34, of Germantown. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds. First responders made life-saving efforts, but Butler was pronounced dead on scene.

Three men were observed leaving the park following the sounds of gunshots, police said.

The men were identified as a 39-year-old Michael Aaron Lynn of Germantown; 61-year-old Kent Williams Jr., who had no permanent address, along with a 27-year-old man, who police did not identify.

Police apprehended the three men and said Lynn and Williams were carrying guns.

Lynn has been charged with first-degree murder and gun charges. Williams has been charged with several firearm offenses, police said.

It was unclear Monday if Lynn or Williams had retained attorneys. They are in jail being held without bond, police said.
