Snow fell Friday morning across parts of Maryland, creating slippery road conditions and prompting some school delays.
Much of Central Maryland was under a Winter Weather Advisory on Friday, including parts of Howard, Anne Arundel, Montgomery, Prince George’s and Baltimore counties.
The National Weather Service issued a second advisory for freezing drizzle between 7 p.m. into Saturday morning along the Interstate 95 corridor. A light glaze of ice is expected.
A handful of school districts operated under a delayed schedule on Friday, including in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s counties.
Much of the snow was concentrated in the southern part of the Baltimore metro area, said Eric Taylor, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Baltimore/Washington office. On the high end, parts of Anne Arundel, Charles and St. Mary’s got around 2 inches of snow, according to preliminary snowfall maps by the weather service.
Crews across the region are treating roads and surfaces for snow, though officials are still urging drivers to use extra caution on Friday. Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport said its airfield surfaces have been treated and the snow is not expected to impact flights. The airport still encouraged travelers to confirm their flight status before arriving.
Temperatures will stay in the upper 20s to around freezing through Friday, Taylor said, with some patchy fog between 9 p.m. and the early hours of Saturday. The weekend will stay sunny and dry, with temperatures in the low 40s during the day before dropping to the high 20s in the evening.
