The 52-year-old woman who was killed in a triple shooting Wednesday night in North Baltimore was identified by police as Antionette Jennings.

She was the mother of a 29-year-old man and the grandmother of an 11-year-old girl who were also shot while in a vehicle, police said. The 29-year-old and the child have non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Jennings was found inside the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene. Police are investigating the shooting and have not released any information about a suspect or suspects.

The shooting, in the 5400 block of York Road in Govans, happened around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

In an interview with WBAL-TV, Police Commissioner Richard Worley said officials believe there was a “minor altercation” that escalated into the family “being targeted.”

Jennings was a pre-K paraeducator at Waverly Elementary/Middle School, a Baltimore City Public Schools spokesperson confirmed. WJZ reported she was attending her granddaughter’s basketball game at the nearby Tunbridge School before a fight caused the gymnasium there to be cleared out.

A letter sent to parents from the principals of the Tunbridge School and The Belair-Edison School said an “altercation” happened at the end of a basketball game between The Belair-Edison School and The Seed School. The game was hosted at the Tunbridge School.

“The altercation was immediately managed by staff and the situation was de-escalated. The two teams were dismissed from the school separately and safely departed on their buses,” the principals wrote.

The letter referenced the later shooting at York Road and Woodbourne Avenue, and said families “may have seen police activity.” The letter did not directly connect the fight in the gymnasium to the shooting.

There have been 10 fatal shootings in Baltimore this year as of Friday morning, a Baltimore Police spokesperson said. There were 11 in the same time period last year.
