Baltimore County Police have charged three adults in the armed carjacking of a restaurant worker at Towson Town Center in November, authorities said Wednesday.

On Nov. 27, police officers responded to a report of armed carjacking on the 800 block of Dulaney Valley Road.

A man told police that he had finished his shift at the Cheesecake Factory inside a nearby mall and walked to his white Mazda when two adult men ordered him to the back of the car. One of the men brandished a gun. A struggle ensued between the vehicle owner and the armed man, and the victim escaped and contacted police, according to charging documents.

Police traced the vehicle to the 3400 block of West North Avenue in Baltimore City through security footage, which also showed two people pacing near the Cheesecake Factory prior to the carjacking and a woman later driving the Mazda. Police used that footage and cellphone pings to trace another vehicle that they said had trailed the victim’s car, which investigators believe was used by the three suspects. One of the three suspects said he worked at the Cheesecake Factory location but was not working on the night of the carjacking, police records show.

The trio, who range in age from 38 to 46, face charges including first-degree assault, armed robbery, armed carjacking and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.

The arrest follows a spate of carjackings or attempted carjackings toward the end of last year. Three days after the Nov. 27 carjacking, there was an attempted carjacking that prompted police to arrest five teens, according to authorities. Police said some of the teens were suspects in a Nov. 29 assault as well. Robberies have dropped from 87 cases in November 2023 to 75 this past November, police data shows. These levels, though, are still higher than the 69 and 68 cases that same month in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
