Police have taken into custody a person of interest following a Saturday night incident in West Baltimore that left a man dead from gunshot wounds, according to the Baltimore Police Department.
Police officers arrived at the 200 block of North Payson Street around 8:11 p.m. Saturday after the mobile app ShotSpotter alerted them of gunshots in the area. They found a 29-year-old man with gunshot wounds, and medics pronounced him dead on the scene.
Spokesperson Lindsey Eldridge in a statement to The Baltimore Banner declined to name the victim because police have not yet notified relatives.
This year, Baltimore Police have logged 3,303 gun-related incidents, police data shows. That’s about a 21% decrease from the same period in 2023, when police recorded 4,180 gun-related incidents.
Homicide has similarly declined in Baltimore, police data shows. There have been 191 homicides in the city, a 24% decrease from 252 from the same period in 2023.
