Baltimore Police officers responded to a shooting involving a 9-year-old girl Saturday afternoon.

The child was transported to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition, according to the police. Police say the shooting was likely accidental and self-inflicted.

The shooting unfolded shortly after 3 p.m. on the 3500 block of Ingleside Avenue in a residential section near Pimlico Race Course.

Due to the girl’s condition, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley and homicide detectives responded to the neighborhood in the northwest section of the city.
