Two Macy’s department stores in Bel Air and Woodlawn are set to close by the end of the first quarter of 2025, the company announced Thursday.

The two Maryland stores are among 66 locations closing as part of Macy’s Bold New Chapter strategy, which includes closing 150 “underproductive stores over a three-year period,” according to the company.

The stores set to close are in Security Square Mall and Harford Mall. The closings are affecting locations across more than 20 states, according to Macy’s.

Last February, Macy’s announced the new strategy and had three priorities to reach their growth goal: strengthen the Macy’s nameplate, accelerate luxury growth and simplify and modernize end-to-end operations.

Including the two locations closing, Macy’s has 13 stores in Maryland, which include the Annapolis Mall, Montgomery Mall, Towson Town Center and the Francis Scott Key Mall.
