You can hear the bass bumping from Mother’s Grille’s famous “Purple Patio” about a block down South Charles Street.

Its bittersweet.

On probably the last night for the eatery to draw a mass of people draped in purple, Baltimoreans poured into the beloved grille about three hours before the Ravens faced off against the Steelers.

Mother’s will close its Federal Hill location after 27 years this month. White Oak Hospitality plans to take over the space but has not announced plans for it.

“It’s difficult to fathom how busy we are,” Mother’s owner Dave Rather said at about 5 p.m. He vowed to take the time to appreciate the chaos.

Fans mourned the longtime Fed Hill fixture as it prepares to close.

“It’s the place to be and always has been,” said Brooke Sanchez, 30, of downtown Baltimore. “Other places have tried to duplicate it, but it always falls short.”

“It’s like Cheers is closing,” said Adam Kleeman, who hovered with friends around what he called “our corner” of the bar.

With the restaurant set for its last day Jan. 19, it could conceivably host another Ravens party (Baltimore would host another home game if it wins Saturday and the Buffalo Bills lose Sunday.)

Regardless of the outcome, Rather said, he plans on closing the evening with shots of liquor to “toast the night” with his wife, son and potentially some staff.
