After a two-day search, authorities on Monday located the body of a Severna Park man who had been hiking in Shenandoah National Park.
Search teams located Robert “Bob” Bieri, 61, not far from where he was last seen hiking off-trail near Lewis Falls, according to the National Park Service.
Bieri’s wife reported him missing Saturday evening after the couple went out to Lewis Mountain for a hike, said Allysah Fox, a spokesperson for the National Park Service. The area is popular among hikers and features a 3.3-mile loop that ends in a waterfall.
The National Park Service sent out rangers to begin the search Saturday night. Rangers were joined by volunteers who responded to a call for assistance put out by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.

Rangers and volunteers battled bushy, midsummer terrain in areas of high probability where they believed Bieri could be found, Fox said.
Shenandoah National Park is over 200,000 acres of protected land, featuring wetlands, waterfalls and rocky peaks covered in sprawling forests. About a two-hour drive from Baltimore, the park is a beloved spot for hiking and other outdoor recreation.
The National Park urges visitors to stay on hiking paths when exploring in order to keep themselves and others safe.
