Employees inside Corky’s Liquors at 5406 York Road described hearing about five gunshots.
The three employees and two customers who were inside the store when the gunfire erupted immediately took cover and dropped to the ground. One of the employees quickly locked the door of the business in what is described as a “working-class neighborhood.”
“We never had this kind of thing happen before,” one of the employees who did not want to give his name told The Banner.
Once the gunfire stopped and police responded, the customers inside Corky’s were let out through a back door exit, the employee told them to get home safely.
As of 8:30 p.m., roads were still blocked off as police and forensic investigators combed the scene for evidence. The woman’s body was covered by a blanket amid a pool of blood and shattered glass.
