Bondhouse Kitchen, a Fells Point restaurant whose American and Southern cuisine made it a brunch hotspot, quietly closed Sunday after four years in business.

The restaurant at 701 S. Bond St. opened in November 2020 through a partnership with the owners of Las’ Lap, a popular New York City cocktail bar, and Chef Arthur Palarata, who was behind the menu of Woodberry Kitchen and Antrim 1844 in Baltimore, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.

Current owners Ibrahim Sheikh and James Hupfl took over the business and added Aliceanna Social Club, an event space adjacent to Bondhouse Kitchen, in 2023 and last September opened GoatBar, a 1920s-inspired speakeasy.

Workers said they learned of the closure just days ago and received no explanation as to why the restaurant was shuttering.

Hupfl, who said he is a silent partner for Bondhouse Kitchen, gave no details about the closure, describing the future of the business as unknown. Sheikh, also the founding partner and president of Poverni Sheikh Group, a real estate and development company, did not respond to requests for comment.

Bondhouse Kitchen’s location has cycled through businesses over the years. It was formerly home to Fletcher’s, a live music club that hosted acts such as Kings of Leon, Cage the Elephant and B.o.B. It closed in 2009 after more than a decade in business.

Fletcher’s was replaced the following year by The Get Down, a nightclub owned by Bryan Burkert, known for his Fells Point record store, The Sound Garden. The nightclub closed in 2015.

Burkert purchased the building from Norman Fletcher in 2006 and has owned and run businesses out of it, including bar and liquor store Sir Duke, which opened in July 2017 and closed in March 2019.

Burkert said in a statement that he did not own Bondhouse Kitchen or have a hand in its operation but that it would be missed.
