White Oak Hospitality, a restaurant group known for running multiple Banditos Tacos & Tequila locations, Wayward Bar & Kitchen and the now-closed Curious Oyster, is seeking to take over the home of Mother’s Federal Hill Grille, according to a liquor license filing.
White Oak restaurateurs Sean White and Michael Lopez requested control of the South Charles Street tavern’s liquor license as part of a transfer application. In the Dec. 17 filing, the duo expressed a desire to expand the patio space known as the Purple Patio — an area well-used by Mother’s and Ravens fans alike as a renowned gathering spot on game days.
Neither Mother’s owner David Rather nor a member of White Oak Hospitality could be reached for comment Thursday.
In a previous interview, Rather referred to Mother’s closing after 27 years in business as “bittersweet” for the family, which has helped run the restaurant. “We’ve spent a lot of our lives here,” he said of the business, which is scheduled to close Jan. 19. The tavern-style eatery will continue to run their pre-existing locations in Timonium and Arnold, and Rather said they may add more locations in the counties where there are “less moving parts.”

At the time of Rather’s announcement, he said the buyer did not yet wish to be named, as they had not yet finalized a concept for the Federal Hill location.
The hospitality group appears to be continuing to work out plans for their new business, but White Oak is certainly familiar with the area. Wayward sits next to Mother’s and a Bandito’s branch is directly across the street.
A hearing to approve the liquor license transfer has not yet been scheduled.
