The owners of a popular pizza joint in Hampden say the establishment will shut down after a new lease deal couldn’t be reached with the building’s owners.

Priya Rayadurg and Randy Shayotovich, who own The Arthouse, said they will close by the end of October, but not before throwing a “Going out of Business” party Oct. 26.

“It’s been a fun, adventurous journey,” Shayotovich said Tuesday night. “It’s bittersweet.”

The restaurant just celebrated its 11th anniversary. Shayotovich said Arthouse opened in October 2013.

“It’s not the ending we were hoping for, for sure. We really wanted to keep it going,” Shayotovich said.

“We like to thank all the great patrons, amazing staff members, talented artists, musicians and comedians that made The Arthouse a very special place,” Rayadurg and Shayotovich wrote in an email. “Stop by for some yummy pizza and drinks, reminisce, and say goodbye.”

The Arthouse is a pizza bar and art gallery, known for its unique pizza toppings including spicy blueberry and brie or wild mushroom and arugula. Work by local artists lines the walls at 1115 W. 36th St. and the food drew rave reviews on Tripadvisor and on social media.

Rayadurg said they’re sad for “so many” reasons.

“I think Hampden is going to miss us, and we’re worried about the staff as well,” she said. The couple said they employ eight people at Arthouse.

Shayotovich said the business’ lease ended some time ago, and they had been on a month-to-month arrangement since then. They were unable to come to an “understanding” with their landlord, he said.

Rayadurg and Shayotovich own two other Hampden businesses, Cloud 9 Clothing and Charm City Hemp, which remain open. Charm City Hemp also has locations in Frederick, Federal Hill and Belvedere Square.

And as to whether Shayotovich and Rayadurg will open another pizza joint — “It’s hard to say,” Shayotovich said.

Many aspects of the business would be hard to replicate, he said, including the hand-built pizza oven.

And “we’re not getting any younger,” he said.
