Howard County’s winter restaurant and craft beverages weeks are in full swing. Have you gone to a spot you’ve been meaning to try? Or an old favorite? Haven’t made it out yet? No worries, it runs through the first weekend of February, so you have plenty of time.
There are many restaurants participating from all over the county including: The Turn House in Columbia, Rathskeller in Elkridge, Cilantro’s Neighborhood Cantina in Glenelg and The White Oak Tavern in Ellicott City.
Maybe grab a bite to eat at one of the participating restaurants before or after attending a event in the county. The winter restaurant week ends Sunday, Feb. 2.
And you can stay warm this Saturday afternoon and play nature-themed games at the Howard County Conservancy, or celebrate the first new moon of the year with a sound bath.

Ice Skating at Color Burst Park
4-9 p.m. Thursday
Lace your skates and brave the cold at Color Burst Park Thursday afternoon. The ice rink’s season ends Jan. 31. Each skating session is 75 minutes.
Thursdays are spin nights, with a DJ, giveaways and a musical theme. This Thursday is 90s Throwback Spin Night.
Tickets are $12, not including skate rentals and a reservation fee. Skate-aids for children are also available to rent. Some weekday nights include discounts.

Paint & Shake at The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar
7-9 p.m. Friday
Sip on a crazy milkshake creation as you paint a wintry scene Friday night. Painters will be guided by an instructor at Pinot’s Palette, a local paint and sip studio.
Painters will receive one crazy mason milkshake and art supplies. To attend, preregister here. Each spot costs $60.54.
Nature Games at the Howard County Conservancy
3-5 p.m. Saturday
Gather with friends and family to play nature-themed board games and cards at the Mt. Pleasant location of the Howard County Conservancy.

This free event is recommended for middle schoolers and older. Registration is required.
Latino Outdoors climbing meetup
12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday
Latino Outdoors, an organization dedicated to engaging and connecting Latino communities in the great outdoors, is hosting an indoor “outdoorsy” event on Sunday. The group is meeting up for indoor climbing at Movement Columbia.
The event is free and open to all ages. Registration is required.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day workshop
6-7:30 p.m. Monday
Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and extermination camp, was liberated on Jan. 27, 1945. Monday, the county’s Office of Human Rights and Equity is honoring the 80th anniversary of liberation.
There are two workshops Monday night at either the East Columbia Branch Library or the Elkridge Branch Library. The workshops will teach participants about the Stolpersteine project, created by Gunter Deming, a German artist.
Since 1992, the project has created hundreds of thousands of cube stones that feature a brass plate with names and life dates of victims of the Holocaust.
Participants will create their own inspired Stolpersteine stone. Attendees under 16 years of age must attend the workshop with a parent or guardian.

Think of the Planet series
7-8 p.m. Tuesday
Think of the Planet, an environmental education series, is kicking off Tuesday night at the Miller Branch library. Tuesday’s event will focus on environmental legislation in the General Assembly.
The series is hosted by the Howard County Sierra Club in collaboration with the Howard County Library System.
Registration for Tuesday’s event closes at 7 p.m. It is the first presentation of the three-part series. The other events are in late February and March.
New Moon sound bath

To honor the first new moon of 2025 and welcoming the Year of the Snake (Jan. 29, according to the Chinese calendar), you can participate in a sound bath at Ellicott City Wellness Center.
Participants are invited to bring a yoga mat, blanket, pillow and any other additional props for comfort during the sound bath session.
Wednesday’s session is $40.25 or $60.54, if participants select a custom essential oil blend.
