A long weekend tends to mean we want to get out of the house, even if it’s still a little icy. From an evening ’80s dance event to a daylong teen rock concert, here are seven things to do in Baltimore County this coming week.

Camp registration

Looking for an affordable summer camp option for your children? Sign-up for the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks summer camp begins Wednesday. Choose from nature, sports or arts camps, or pick something that blends all three. Sign up quickly; these fill up, especially since a full week can cost as little as $100. If you don’t have a CivicRec account already, you can create one here to sign up through the county’s portal.

Family Game Night

What goes together like frozen yogurt and family games? Well, sweetFrog in Catonsville is hosting this event, which is always on the third Thursday of the month from 5-9 p.m. The shop has dominoes, cards, various board games and of course serve-yourself frozen yogurt for the kids and adults. You can also get four kid-size cups for $20 — enough yogurt to keep the kids happy and give the adults stamina for that umpteenth game of Spit.

Roots music concert

Stages Music Arts in Cockeysville is hosting birds of a feather from 7:30-10 p.m. Friday. The band Whiskey Feathers is going to be joined by the quartet Feather and Flask for a night of Americana music influenced by psychedelic sounds. Tickets starts at $17.85.

The Baltimore Banner thanks its sponsors. Become one.

Exotic Animal Show

Reptile-mania is coming to the Timonium fairgrounds this weekend. The Repticon Baltimore Reptile and Exotic Animal Show will be held Jan. 18 and 19. Admission is $11 or $12 for adults (prices vary), and $6 for ages 5-12; children under 4 are free. Military, teachers and first responders can also attend free. Be warned, though: Your child may ask to bring that cute snake home, and snakes eat a lot of mice (don’t ask me how I know).

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration

This event, where children ages 7 to 12 can participate with an adult, is focused on creating interpretive art that focuses on unity and justice. It’s inspired by the poetry of Amanda Gorman and the artwork of Loren Long, who made the popular picture book “Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem.” Towson University Hillel is hosting the event at the Commons on Towson University’s campus in cooperation with the Jewish Connection Network. The event runs from 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Young Rockers Concert

Remember the “School of Rock” movie where Jack Black’s irresponsible Dewey Finn takes his young charges on a field trip to audition for Battle of the Bands? Well, this is not exactly like that, but it is a concert for Towson-area teen bands. The School of Rock Winter Concert begins at 11 a.m. Sunday (early for us parents who are not keeping rock and roll hours anymore). It’s an all-ages show that showcases the hard work these young musicians have been putting in for all of 2024.

’80s Dance Night

If you’re in the mood to party like it’s 1985, then ’80s Dance Night with DJ Erik has all the Go-Gos and Pat Benatar you’re looking for on Friday night at Manor Mill in Monkton. Check out The Loft from 7-10 p.m. and don’t forget to bring your leg warmers and refresh the bangs with some Aqua Net before you head out. Tickets are $22, and all leotards, neon, and Madonna bracelets are, of course, not included. There will be a disco ball.
