It’s freezing this week, but if you’re willing to brave the cold, there are plenty of fun things to do in Baltimore County this week, from an interactive pet show to live classical music performances.

World of Pets

The World of Pets is hosting an expo and educational experience at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium from Friday to Sunday. Come look at and shop for your furry friends and other pets here. There will also be a cat show, an interactive dog training area and petting zoo, as well as many rescues and shelters with adoptable critters. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children aged 5-12. Kids under age 5 get in free.

Nature’s Glow

Come see nature’s glow-in-the-dark wonders at the Natural History Society of Maryland on Jan. 26 from 1-4 p.m. You’ll be surrounded by scorpions, fireflies, calcite and other specimens and artifacts to light up your afternoon. Tickets are free, but you should RSVP.

Restaurant week

It’s winter restaurant week in Baltimore County, which means you might be able to nab nice discounts at 40 eateries including BlueStone, Franco’s Italian Bistro and Conrad’s Seafood Restaurant. View the full list of participating restaurants here.

Brunch with a monster

Sorrento of Arbutus will host brunch, coffee and hot chocolate with Sully from “Monsters, Inc.” at 5401 East Drive in Arbutus on from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Coffee and hot chocolate are free, but short-stack pancakes and French toast cost $5 to $10.

Classical soloists

Rising classical music stars will showcase their skills with a medley of performances at The Gordon Center at 3506 Gwynnbrook Ave. from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday. The event is free, but registration is required.

‘Frozen’ stage show

Trained opera singers the Outcalls will belt out favorites from the movie and Broadway productions of “Frozen” from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Carver Center for Arts and Technology at 938 York Road. Let it go, and go in costume. Tickets range from $15 to $30.

Land Preservation 101

Curious about land preservation but were afraid to ask? The The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy, the Baltimore County Land Preservation Program and the Baltimore County Land Trust Coalition are sponsoring an event where experts will field questions on the benefits of land preservation and what options are available to land owners. The event will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday Jan. 24 at the Baltimore County Agricultural Center, 1114 Shawan Road, Cockeysville. Coffee and refreshments will be provided.
