Anne Arundel County Police have detained two suspects in the recent stabbing of a Meade High School student, the department announced late Thursday.

The two suspects were identified by police Friday afternoon as two fellow Meade High students: 18-year-old JaQuan Ky’lee Guy and a 14-year-old male student.

Guy is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, assault and school-related charges, police said. The 14-year-old faces the same charges, and a conspiracy to commit murder charge.

Although the students have been arrested, the Anne Arundel County Police Department said the investigation is ongoing.

Both students were found in their homes on the Fort Meade base on Friday.

Around 10 a.m. Thursday, a school resource officer discovered the 17-year-old victim from Severn in a hallway and called for help. The student was transferred to Shock Trauma at the University of Maryland Medical Center, where he was conscious and listed in stable but serious condition, Anne Arundel County Police Chief Amal Awad said.

The school was locked down Thursday while police investigated and searched for a weapon.

Awad on Thursday urged worried parents and guardians to stay away from the school while police investigated, and she called for the perpetrator, or perpetrators, to turn themselves in. Many people likely witnessed the stabbing, which she described as an “isolated incident.”

“I’m asking the community to wrap their arms around this young man, his family,” Awad said during a news conference outside the high school. “Children should be free to come to school, learn and not fear being violently assaulted or harmed.”

Superintendent Mark Bedell spoke beside Awad at the news conference. He vowed to work with law enforcement and elected officials to make the county’s schools as safe as possible. He also promised to follow the school system’s student code of conduct and discipline anyone determined to be involved in the stabbing.
