Two middle school students in Anne Arundel County have been charged after police found an unloaded gun and unloaded BB gun at school.

Officers responded to Marley Middle School in Glen Burnie on Tuesday after school officials found an unloaded 9 mm handgun in a student’s backpack, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

The student had initially been removed from class for vaping, and then staff found the gun, according to a message sent to school families and staff on Tuesday from Principal Kimberly Winterbottom.

The student said the gun belonged to another student, according to police. When the second student was searched, police found a replica Glock BB gun that was also unloaded.

Police said there’s no evidence either student showed the guns to anyone in the school.

“In addition to any action that may be taken by police, please be assured that our school will take appropriate action against the students involved in today’s incident in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct,” wrote Winterbottom in the message to families and staff.

Police took both students from the school building, Winterbottom added, and the school was able to dismiss students on time.
