If you’re thinking of trying to squeeze in time to renew your driver’s license this week, better plan ahead. State agencies and offices will be closed Tuesday after Gov. Wes Moore declared Christmas Eve a state holiday in Maryland.

“We hope that all of our incredible public servants across the state can take a much-needed day to be with their loved ones this holiday season,” Moore said in a news release on Sunday.

This makes Christmas Eve the 14th holiday for state employees in Maryland this year, because Election Day was also considered an off day. Christmas and New Year’s Day are also state holidays.

Maryland joins Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin as states where Christmas Eve is a holiday, according to calendar database organization Time and Date. On Thursday, West Virginia’s governor also announced Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve holidays for state employees.
