Union Craft Brewing in Baltimore is partnering with University of Maryland athletics to launch a beer inspired by Testudo, the university’s mascot.

Testudo Premium Lager will debut later this month and will be available at SECU Stadium and Xfinity Center during games, along with retail locations across the state.

The red cans feature a turtle-shell pattern with a retro version of Testudo from the 1980s and ’90s waving the Maryland state flag. The word Testudo is in the same script font that appears on the Maryland football jerseys and helmets.

The brewery, which was founded by Maryland alum Adam Benesch, will hold a launch party for the lager on Aug. 14.

The Baltimore Banner thanks its sponsors. Become one.

“We are Terps through and through and being able to bring this refreshing craft beer to each of them is a dream come true for me and all of UNION Craft Brewing,” said Benesch in the press release. “We couldn’t be more excited to spread the word of Testudo Premium Lager through the region with tremendous Maryland pride.”

A percentage of the revenue from the lager will go to the One Maryland Collective, the program’s NIL collective that helps athletes earn money through endorsements and marketing deals. Union will also offer internships to students studying marketing, fermentation science and other related fields.
