At the end of this month, Orioles fans have the chance to brush shoulders with several players during the annual Birdland Caravan. And this year, the initial cast of players includes a trio who weren’t part of the festivities in 2024.

Catcher Adley Rutschman and infielders Gunnar Henderson and Jackson Holliday are included in certain events, along with reigning AL Rookie of the Year finalist Colton Cowser.

Ryan O’Hearn, Cade Povich, Chayce McDermott, Ryan Mountcastle, Jordan Westburg and Albert Suárez are part of the player contingent as well. In addition, general manager Mike Elias and manager Brandon Hyde will attend events during the tour, which runs from Thursday, Jan. 30 to Saturday, Feb. 1.

Last year, Rutschman and Henderson weren’t part of the Birdland Caravan lineup, and a conflict forced Holliday to back out late.

The Birdland Caravan returned in 2023 after a two-year hiatus in 2021 and 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic and the Major League Baseball lockout. The first edition took place in 2020 as a replacement for Orioles FanFest, a larger gathering at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Instead, the Birdland Caravan carries Orioles players and personnel throughout Maryland. This year, there will be stops in Baltimore, Columbia, Ellicott City, Severn, Bel Air, Halethorpe, and three to-be-named locations in Frederick, Harford and Montgomery counties.

The public festivities begin Jan. 30 with a pop-up photo opportunity in Frederick County between 3:30-4:30 p.m. The location and players involved will be announced the day before the event, and it will be a first-come, first-served opportunity. Privately, players will attend assemblies at William Winchester Elementary School and Glendale Elementary School that day.

Later that night, between 5-9 p.m., there will be a happy hour at the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Halethorpe. Holliday, McDermott, O’Hearn and Povich are all scheduled to make appearances between 6-8 p.m., and the event will require tickets for fans. There are 600 available tickets, which cost $5 in advance and $15 on the day of the event. A player Q&A will also take place.

On Friday, Jan. 31, there will be another pop-up photo opportunity, this time in Harford County, between noon and 1 p.m. Then, at the Hill Family Center Y in Westminster, a non-ticketed event will take place between 5-7 p.m. There will be photo opportunities with Ketchup, Mustard and Relish from the hot dog race and the Oriole Bird will make an appearance.

Rounding out the evening is a ticketed event at PBR Baltimore, which will host a karaoke happy hour between 6-9 p.m. Advance tickets cost $10; on the day of the event, tickets cost $20, and there are 450 available.

The group of players anticipated at the karaoke happy hour is stacked: Rutschman, Henderson, Cowser, Holliday, Mountcastle, O’Hearn, Povich, Westburg and Suárez.

In their event details, the Orioles note that not every fan in attendance will be able to sing on stage. There will be a QR code signup at the event for an opportunity to sing. The mechanical bull, however, will be available to ride at no extra cost (so long as a waiver is signed).

On Saturday, Feb. 1, the final day begins with a bowling experience at Bowlero in Columbia, where Cowser, Henderson, O’Hearn, Rutschman and Hyde are all expected to appear. The ticketed event includes food and a drink ticket. For two people, the package costs $170. It will cost $320 for a group of four and $420 for six people.

A kids rally in Severn will feature Cowser, Henderson, Rutschman, O’Hearn and Hyde between 2-3 p.m. at the Severn Run High School gymnasium. It also is a ticketed event, with up to 800 spots available at $5 each.

Cowser and Rutschman will later participate in a baseball clinic for kids ages 5 to 12 at the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex in Ellicott City. There are 50 spots per age group, with each costing $25. All participants will receive a plastic bat and ball giveaway and have the chance for a photo with Cowser and Rutschman. They will also get basic baseball instruction.

Holliday, McDermott and Povich will appear at a ticketed event centered around sports cards. At Bel Air Sports Cards, there were 200 available spots (split between two time slots, 5-6 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m.) for $5 each. Each ticket holder will receive a packet of Topps cards and arcade games will be available to play. As of Monday, Jan. 13, the event listing says it is sold-out.

A free event will take place at the Y in Pasadena between 5-7 p.m., where fans can take photos with the Oriole Bird and Mr. Splash. A final pop-up photo opportunity will take place in Montgomery County between 11 a.m. and noon. The location will be announced on social media.
