Kevin Brown will remain the voice of the Orioles for years to come.
Brown, the lead play-by-play announcer for the team, signed a multi-year contract extension with the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, the team announced on Thursday.
“I’m humbled and honored to be a part of this next chapter of Orioles baseball,” Brown said in a statement. “My incredible colleagues in the booth and around the ballpark make every day a joy. Baltimore is a special place, and I’m grateful to call it my home. Here’s to many more nights of this thrilling team, this passionate fan base, and all the ballpark food I can reasonably eat.”
Brown was given a one-year extension before the start of spring training to get him through the 2024 season, but all major decisions were on hold until the ownership transfer was complete. David Rubenstein and his ownership group purchased the team in February, and the sale got approved on the eve of opening day. The group bought the remaining shares from the minority owners this month. This is not a new contract for a player, but Brown, a fan favorite, still receives the first extension handed out under Rubenstein.
Brown, a rising star in the industry, called his first Orioles game on radio in 2019 and in 2022 became the primary play-by-play announcer for MASN, teaming with Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Palmer and former Orioles pitcher Ben McDonald as his analysts. Brown also works for ESPN, calling college basketball, college softball and the “Sunday Night Baseball” Statcast Edition.
“When he joined our broadcast team six years ago, we knew Kevin Brown would quickly become a household name,” Greg Bader, the Orioles Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, said in a statement. “His knowledge and passion for the game, paired with his lighthearted personality and genuine relationships with his colleagues in the booth have turned each Orioles game into can’t miss television. We are grateful to have Kevin on our team and look forward to him calling winning Orioles baseball for years to come.”
Last year, Brown was removed from MASN broadcasts for two weeks after making a factual statement about the Orioles’ record against the Rays. He received thunderous support from fans, and his absence made national headlines.
