After missing two straight field goals to start the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, seven-time Pro Bowl kicker Justin Tucker has more misses (6) through 11 games than he did all last season (5).
Tucker had not missed a field goal in Pittsburgh since his rookie year. The Ravens lost by two points Sunday. All 18 of the Steelers’ points came on field goals by Chris Boswell.
“It’s certainly frustrating, especially when we know that these games come down to the wire, like this one did today, that I let a couple get away,” Tucker said. “But, like I’ve said before, the only thing that we can do is just get right back to work and focus on making the most out of our next opportunity.”
The back-to-back misses are also extremely rare. Although he missed two straight field goals in the 2022 Week 14 loss to the Cleveland Browns, one of those was blocked. He also missed two straight from Week 3 to Week 4 last season.
However, Tucker had not missed consecutive unblocked field goals within a game since 2014, when he missed two in a 20-14 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also hadn’t missed multiple field goals in a game (not including blocks) since 2018 in a 20-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
Earlier this season, Tucker also missed a field goal in three straight games for the first time in his career.
making jokes about Justin Tucker is fun and all but this is a real serious problem for a Super Bowl contender. Any other team/name, and we'd be spilling lots of ink on kicker change ideas for Baltimore.

Tucker’s missed field goals against Pittsburgh were the Ravens’ first two scoring opportunities. If he’d made them, the Ravens would have been up 6-3. Instead, they trailed 3-0 after his two attempts.
Both attempts were from 40-plus yards, which Tucker has struggled with recently. The first was from 47 yards, and the second was from 50. This season, Tucker is 7-of-13 from that range.
With the two misses, Tucker’s kicking percentage for the season falls to 72.74%, by far his lowest in a season. Prior to this season, his worst was 82.5% in 2015.
All of the misses have been wide left, yet Tucker said there’s not a theme among them.
Tucker and coach John Harbaugh have said it is not an issue of leg strength but of mechanics. Tucker, who will turn 35 in three days, said he does not think age is a factor.
Through Tucker’s struggles, Harbaugh has expressed confidence in the kicker’s ability to turn things around. He continued to do so but did stress the importance that he figures things out.
“Tuck needs to make kicks,” Harbaugh said. “He knows that; that’s important. He makes them in practice, and he made the long one later, which was good to see — which means he’s still very capable. Kick them straight, we’ll be good.”
The field goal Tucker made was a 54-yarder. He said he made an adjustment, although he also said he treats each kick as its own.
“So the first two that I missed today, I was still trying to make it a point to do just that — treat each kick for what it’s worth — and ultimately, just decided to make a slight adjustment moving forward for the remaining opportunities that we would have for the rest of the day,” Tucker said. “I just made it a point and communicated with [long snapper] Nick [Moore] and [holder] Jordan [Stout]. ‘Hey, I’m going to pick a target line that’s going to be more right third of the uprights, and we’re just going to just smash a ball and go from there. So, yes, I’ll leave it at that.”
Tucker is 16-for-22 this season.
