Lamar Jackson is officially the top running quarterback in NFL history.
With his 6-yard scramble in the third quarter against the Houston Texans on Wednesday, Jackson reached 6,110 career rushing yards, passing Michael Vick’s 6,109 for the most by any quarterback in the league’s history.
It took Vick 143 games to reach the mark. Jackson needed just 102.
Jackson’s legs have always been a big part of his game. He’s had two 1,000-rushing yard seasons (2019 and 2020). Since 2020, he’s cut back a bit, lingering around the 700- to 800-yard mark.
Last season, he rushed for 821 yards, the most since 2020. He returned this season with a slimmer frame with the goal of being lighter on his feet.
In the season opener, a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Jackson rushed for 122 yards. However, after Week 3’s 28-25 win over the Dallas Cowboys, when he rushed for 87 yards, Jackson has been running less. He did not surpass 54 rushing yards in a game for the next 10 weeks.

But Jackson got loose as the Ravens punished Houston’s defense. He gave running back Derrick Henry the ball twice to start the game, and, after being sacked, rushed for 25 yards to get the first down. From there, Henry tore apart the Texans, while Jackson used his legs to extend plays.
The majority of Jackson’s rushing yards came on a 48-yard touchdown run. Jackson has looked elusive all season, but here he showed off his straight-line speed.
Jackson also had 166 passing yards and two touchdowns heading into the fourth quarter.
