The NFL fined Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey $11,255 for unsportsmanlike conduct after he was judged to be taunting the Pittsburgh Steelers on his Week 16 pick-6.

Humphrey held out the ball in front of Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III as he returned an interception for a pivotal touchdown in the fourth quarter of a 34-17 win Dec. 21. He was not flagged on the play and later explained that he was trying to pitch the ball to outside linebacker David Ojabo, who was nearby and had helped force the errant throw by quarterback Russell Wilson.

“Some people brought up to me that it looked like taunting or something, but I was trying to pitch him the football, and there’s no taunting there at all; I just want to make that very clear,” Humphrey said after the game. “Ojabo is a great guy. I wanted to pitch it to him. Then I got in the end zone, and it was good.”

Ojabo himself said after the game that Humphrey approached him after the play and said he was hoping to pitch the ball to him.

This is Humphrey’s third fine this season. He was docked a combined $33,766 for two unnecessary-roughness plays in a Week 10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Humphrey has played at a Pro Bowl level this season, posting a career-high six interceptions and bouncing back in coverage after an inconsistent 2023.
