The Ravens are adding veteran running back Dalvin Cook to the active roster ahead of Saturday’s divisional-round playoff game against the Houston Texans.

The move comes a day after the team waived Melvin Gordon III, temporarily leaving Gus Edwards and Justice Hill as the only running backs on the active roster.

“Dalvin will be in there. It will be a great opportunity for him and for us,” coach John Harbaugh said Thursday.

Speaking with reporters, Cook said he’s ready to give “everything I got in the tank. It’s the playoffs, man.”

Gordon spent much of the season on the Ravens’ practice squad and was elevated for weeks 3 and 4. The Ravens signed him to the 53-man roster on Dec. 19, and he made appearances in the last two games of the season.

He had seven carries for 18 yards against the Steelers but also fumbled.

But the Ravens had Cook waiting in the wings as a potential addition for the team’s playoff run.

Coming off four straight seasons with at least 1,100 rushing yards as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, Cook signed with the Jets in early September, joining new quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles tendon four snaps into the season, and a team hoping to make a deep run in the AFC never found its footing on offense. Behind a subpar offensive line and without the team’s starting quarterback, Cook was limited to 214 yards on 67 carries and 78 receiving yards. He did not score a touchdown.

The Jets waived the four-time Pro Bowler on Jan. 2, and he joined the Ravens’ practice squad two days later.

Executive vice president and general manager Eric DeCosta has a couple of other roster decisions to make before Saturday. Baltimore’s active roster sits at 51 players, and the two open spots could go to tight end Mark Andrews (ankle), wide receiver Devin Duvernay (back) or safety Ar’Darius Washington (pectoral), all of whom have been designated to return from injured reserve.

Andrews and Duvernay were full participants in practice Wednesday. Ahead of the team’s Week 18 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington was a limited participant in practice. He has not been on the injury report this week.
