“I’ve been doing it for a long time with him,” Rutschman said. “That’s why I feel like it means so much, just because we’ve had so many BP sessions, so many fake Home Run Derby games — he’s always been the guy.”
López, a 2022 All-Star for the Orioles, was placed on the 15-day injured list for his mental health, becoming the fourth player in Major League Baseball to receive that designation.
”I don’t know, I can’t see in the mind of Colton Cowser,” fellow prospect Jordan Westburg said. "It’s pretty hard to get in there, and it could be a scary place, but to me it seems he’s always able to brush things off. He’s always able to have fun, no matter what’s going on."
Cowser has taken Triple-A Norfolk by storm this season. In the previous 56 games he played, Cowser hit .330 with a .996 on-base-plus-slugging percentage.
Rutschman, who grew up in Oregon, saw his first MLB game in Seattle. Now he’ll return there to partake in the most popular part of All-Star festivities.
