“It’s been a tough night,” executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias said Thursday. “Today is a tough day. This is all very raw, very fresh.”
“You look at it as an opportunity,” Eflin said. “We have an opportunity to right the ship tomorrow and we are going to show up prepared and ready to go.”
Cowser went to see the show on Sept. 23 during the Orioles’ off day in New York prior to what would be a pivotal Yankees series. The next day, the Orioles claimed their playoff spot.
Ripken, a Hall of Famer who played all 21 of his major league seasons with the Orioles, purchased the Utica Blue Sox in 2001 and moved them to Aberdeen, his hometown.
“We are going to get him ready for 2025,” manager Brandon Hyde said. “It’s disappointing. It’s tough. He’s so talented and a huge part of our rotation this year and going forward.”
The Orioles are guaranteed at least the third wild card spot but are in position to secure the top spot and home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
“It’s been a really tough stretch the past couple of months,” outfielder Colton Cowser said. “To be where we’re at with the number of injures we had, I’m just really proud of this group.”
Mountcastle is an instrumental part of the Orioles offense as a right-handed bat, hitting .265 with a .730 OPS, and infield, where he’s a Gold Glove candidate at first base.
