The playoffs come down to a man holding a bat with a chance to make something happen, and the Orioles’ playoff runs in this era, to this point, have been devoid of them.
The Orioles are reinforced, and it shows. They are in the playoffs, and they celebrated accordingly. Win a couple more games and they can ensure a home playoff series next week. Play as well as they can, and they’ll probably play well beyond that.
The Orioles lost Sunday, yes, but look at the lineup they started this home stand with Tuesday. This version has a much better chance of playoff success.
“So we’re aware of the fact that we’re in a slump as a team right now, as an organization, all of us, and we’re working on that, but we don’t want to lose sight of where we are and how we got here,” Elias said.
Every point of evidence suggests the Orioles are not going to change how they approach and try to win each game. The processes they’re sticking to now were honed long before the team had such high expectations, and are what in many ways helped them earn those expectations.
