Central Maryland is under a winter weather advisory until 10 a.m. Thursday as freezing rain and sleet showered the area overnight and into the early morning, according to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office.
According to NWS, the total ice accumulation was .06 inches in Baltimore, .08 inches in Baltimore County, .13 inches in Harford County and .08 inches in Howard County.
NWS said the freezing rain could make roads, bridges and overpasses slick and hazardous, and urged those commuting on Thursday to use caution.
The Maryland Transportation Authority said crews continue treating roads and recommend people limit travel until later in the morning.

Baltimore’s Department of Transportation cautioned those traveling along icy sidewalks to wear boots, take short steps and keep their hands out of their pockets for balance. If you hit ice along your commute by car this morning, DOT recommends not panicking and slowing down to proceed with caution.
The weather has prompted government and school delays and closures across Maryland. Public schools in Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties are closed on Thursday due to icy road conditions.
Baltimore County government offered liberal leave for employees until 11 a.m., while Harford County government offices will open at 9 a.m. Thursday due to inclement weather.
More wintry precipitation and snow are expected over the weekend and early next week. NWS forecasts show snow before 4 p.m. Saturday, followed by rain mixed with snow, then rain. Erik Taylor, a meteorologist for NWS Baltimore/Washington, said Saturday’s events will likely mirror the events of Thursday morning.
Snow is in the forecast again for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but snowfall amounts are uncertain at the moment.
“They’re just very marginal in terms of temperature. There’s cold air in place, but there’s warm air moving in,” said Cody Ledbetter, a meteorologist for NWS Baltimore/Washington. “Sometimes you end up in the bullseye, sometimes you end up on the fringe.”
