After braving the first major snow of the year, Baltimoreans should brace for chilly temperatures, high wind gusts and another potential snowstorm later this week.

In a snow system that passed through the region on Monday, 5-5.5 inches of snow fell in northern Baltimore, while southern Baltimore got 6 to 6.5 inches, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Austin Mansfield.

But while the winter storm warning was lifted last night around 11 p.m. Monday, chilly temperatures and heavy winds will persist, with the threat of snow returning as early as Friday night into Saturday.

“We’re getting increasing confidence we’re going to have some snow Friday night into Saturday,” NWS meteorologist Brian Lasorsa said.

Lasorsa advised Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers fans attending Saturday’s 8 p.m. game at MT&T Bank Stadium to pay attention to weather forecasts to coordinate travel plans.

There’s a 70% chance of snow after 1 a.m. Saturday and a 40% chance of snow before 1 p.m. that same day, current NWS forecasts show.

Predicted snowfall amounts weren’t immediately available. Neither were wind gusts, but Lasorsa doesn’t predict winds will be as bad during the snow system.

“For Friday and Saturday, it looks like pretty light winds, about 5 mph, then it may pick up behind the system Saturday night,” Lasorsa said.

Temperatures will remain in the 20s and 30s this week with high wind gusts.
