Maryland Attorney General’s Office released the names of a Dundalk man who was fatally shot during a mental health crisis and the Baltimore County Police officer responsible.

Glenn Pettie Jr., 43, was killed Sunday evening after reportedly firing at Officer Michael Brady, a four-year veteran of the department, in an alley behind the 8200 block of North Boundary Road, officials announced on Tuesday.

Brady went to the alley behind the home following a call for a mental health crisis, the attorney general’s office said. Behind the alley, Pettie, who matched the description provided by the 911 caller “fired upon the officer,” according to the initial investigation.

Brady fired back and Pettie was wounded, the attorney general’s office said.

Pettie was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. Officials said a handgun was recovered from the scene.

During a press conference Sunday evening, Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough said this was an isolated incident.

“We recognized in these types of incidents, even the person who was the victim or the person who was shot, they have family members, and we empathize with them, and there are a lot of people involved,” McCullough said, according to WJZ.

Neighbors told WJZ they didn’t anticipate the call for help would end with a man fatally shot.

“This area is usually a pretty good area,” said Russell Hayes, a neighbor. “We don’t usually have crime. The neighbors get along good.”

The shooting is being handled by the Independent Investigations Division of the Office of the Maryland Attorney General, according to officials. The attorney general’s office investigates all fatal police incidents in the state.

This is the fifth shooting in 2025 that involves county police, McCullough said.

Last week, Baltimore County Police officers shot a man in Essex who was armed with a knife, and in April, county officers fatally shot a man armed with a bow and arrow in Arbutus.

Earlier this year, Baltimore County officers were involved in a shooting at the Wilkens Police Precinct. An armed man, identified later as a local teacher, shot at officers in the parking lot of the precinct, authorities said.
