Baltimore County Police are searching for a man “in crisis” they say shot an officer responding to a Cockeysville home on Wednesday afternoon.
Officers went to the 10000 block of Powers Avenue about 2:30 p.m. “in reference to a person in crisis,” spokesperson Joy Stewart said.

A family member let police in and brought them to the man, who then shot an officer, Stewart said.

The officer was taken to a local hospital, and was in stable condition, Stewart said. Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewki Jr. tweeted late Wednesday the officer had been released from the hospital and “is in good spirits.”
Police are looking for David Emory Linthicum, a 24-year-old white man. He was last seen “wearing a black hoodie and black pants” and is believed to be armed, Stewart said.
Neighbors said a large police presence — one said it included a SWAT team — arrived between 2 and 3 p.m. They eventually heard gunfire, and later got a call to shelter in place. Buses carrying children to the neighborhood were rerouted; aides called parents of the children and arranged for alternate drop-off locations.
By 3:30 p.m., all entrances to Sherwood Road were blocked by police, and dozens of officers had gathered at a staging area in the parking lots of the Sherwood Episcopal Church and Faith Lutheran Church, both near York Road. Frantic parents pleaded to enter the neighborhood in hopes of picking up their children but were turned away.
Authorities continued arriving over the next several hours as helicopters circled overhead. At about 5:30 p.m., trailers carrying all-terrain vehicles arrived at the lot. As of late Wednesday night, the search is still underway. Olszewski said he remains “fully confident” in the county police department and has been in “constant contact” with them.

Anyone encountering Linthicum is encouraged to avoid approaching him and call 911.
Residents who live in the area of Powers Avenue and Sherwood Road and are returning from work should find an alternate place to go because roads are blocked off. People who are in their homes in that area should shelter in place, Stewart said.
