New details have emerged since a Monkton man was charged with first-degree murder after Baltimore County Police say he killed his wife inside their home on Maplehurst Lane on Monday.
Police found 56-year-old Kimberly Lechner suffering from stab wounds in the hallway on the second floor of her home after responding to a 911 call placed by her brother, according to charging documents.
Her brother, who lives in the basement of the Monkton home, called police around 9 a.m. after finding his sister’s husband, Anthony Lechner, 55, on top of her and stabbing her repeatedly.
Kimberly Lechner’s brother tried to stop his brother-in-law, first with his cane, then with a bust retrieved from a nearby office. Hitting Anthony Lechner with the bust caused him to drop his weapon.
Officers responding to the 911 call attempted to save Kimberly Lechner’s life but were unsuccessful.
Police found Anthony Lechner sitting on steps inside of the home wearing only shorts, covered in blood and with cuts on his wrist and thigh. When approached by officers, charging documents say he asked them, “What happened?”
Anthony Lechner later told the police he couldn’t remember what happened and asked for a lawyer. He is being held without bond, according to online court records. He does not have an attorney listed.
Who was Kimberly Lechner?
Kimberly Lechner was a longtime educator at Two by Two, a preschool located within a three-minute drive of the couple’s Monkton home. The school is affiliated with Hereford Faith & Life Church.
In a statement, Emily Farnell, pastor of Hereford Faith & Life Church, wrote that members of their community are “devastated by the loss of our friend and colleague.”
“Kim’s love and passion for our children will have an impact for years to come. This is a profound loss for so many throughout the Hereford Zone, and we appreciate all thoughts, prayers, and warm wishes,” Farnell wrote.
She asks that the public give Kimberly Lechner’s family and friends privacy as they grieve and process her loss.
The Lechners have two children, Riley and Lily, who attended Hereford High School. The couple has owned their home at 900 Maplehurst Lane since 2003, according to online property records.
Three years ago, the family suffered a house fire, according to a GoFundMe page that was started by a member of the Hereford community to assist the family financially. The fundraiser raised over $27,000, and its comments section is filled with outpours of love and support from the local community.
Maplehurst Lane is part of a suburb about 15 minutes north of Cockeysville and a mile east of Hereford.
