Montgomery County Police Monday identified the motorcyclist who died Sunday morning in Rockville after a crash with a car as Charles Anthony Hawkins.

Hawkins, 63, was from Rockville, police said.

He died after being struck by a 2014 Toyota Camry which made a left turn from Montrose Road onto Tildenwood Drive in Rockville, police said.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m., forcing the closure of some lanes of Montrose Road near St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, according to a spokesperson for the county’s fire and rescue service.

The Camry’s driver struck Hawkins’ motorcycle, a 1977 Kawasaki, “for reasons still under investigation,” police said.

Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Camry’s driver stayed on the scene and was uninjured, police said.

Police and Montgomery County Fire personnel responded to the scene, and the police department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating. The investigation is ongoing.
