The Howard County Police Department is investigating after an unidentified pedestrian was killed in a collision while crossing the street.
Police said the 73-year-old male pedestrian “stepped into the travel portion of the roadway” on Cedar Lane in Columbia, near where it intersects with Holland Court, when a man driving a 2013 Hyundai Sonata traveling north hit him around 5:15 p.m. Monday.
The driver, an adult man, was not injured and remained on the scene. Police said the driver does not appear to have been at fault. They also said driving speed and road configuration do not seem to have played a role in the collision.
The pedestrian was taken to Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Cedar Lane at Holland Court was closed for about two hours during the investigation, police said.
