A man has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with the Fells Point assault of a 74-year-old man who later died, Baltimore City Police confirmed Monday evening.

The suspect, Timothy Clinedinst, was taken into custody in Dundalk, police spokeswoman Niki Fennoy said. He has since been transported to the Central Booking and Intake Facility.

Councilman Zeke Cohen said the Fells Point community has been “devastated” by the attack on David Philpot and that his office will work with the community, law enforcement, the State’s Attorney’s Office and the victim’s family “to make sure justice is fully served.” The chief medical examiner ruled his death to be a homicide.

Police on Sunday said Philpot was in a “brief verbal altercation” with an unidentified man who assaulted him around 2:45 p.m. Saturday in the 1700 block of Eastern Avenue.
