Montgomery Police launched a homicide investigation after a man was found fatally shot in a North Bethesda apartment on Sunday.
Police identified the victim as 29-year-old Akwalabeng Fontaya. He was found with an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
First responders were called to an apartment in the 5900 block of Montrose Road at approximately 7:45 a.m., where they found the man’s body, police said.
Detectives learned that an adult man and woman were inside the apartment before the shooting. They were kidnapped and “forced into a vehicle following the shooting. The man was later released in Silver Spring,” police said.
Detectives found the woman at the Westfield Montgomery shopping mall. The woman was with Sheldon Milan Boykins, 37, of Hyattsville, police said.
Boykins was taken to the county’s detention center, where he was charged with two counts of kidnapping and gun charges, police said.
Police continue to search for two other male suspects.
Anyone with information about the outstanding suspects is asked to visit Crime Solvers of Montgomery County, where they can submit a tip.
Tipsters can also call 1-866-411-8477. Anyone who provides information leading to an arrest could be eligible for a reward between $250 and $10,000, police said.
