A Lansdowne High School student died on Tuesday after being “targeted” in a shooting that happened outside a shopping center near the school, police said.

The shooter opened fire on the 16-year-old boy while he was outside of a store around 2:30 p.m., Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough said.

The victim, who did not attend classes on Tuesday, ran toward the high school, where he fell to the ground, police said. The gunman chased the boy in a vehicle and hopped out to shoot him “a few more times” after he hit the ground, police said.

According to McCullough, the shooter fled and remains on the loose. Police said the 16-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital where he died.
