Baltimore County firefighters on Sunday continued work at the scene of a three-alarm fire that began Saturday night at a Dundalk recycling plant, officials reported.

“Extinguishment efforts continue at the scene of the fire,” the Baltimore County Fire Department said Sunday afternoon on X, adding that the Peninsula Expressway has reopened in both directions.

The fire was still not out late Sunday afternoon, Capt. Len Stewart said, adding crews were “working with excavators to remove debris to get to seat of fire. We still have a full alarm of personnel at location.”

He said there have been no injuries, but one man was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The fire at the Owl Metals plant in the 1900 block of Rettman Lane caused a partial collapse of a building, officials had said. Officials have not said what caused the fire.

Baltimore County Police had advised motorists to avoid the area as crews battled the blaze and had closed roads, including the expressway.

The Owl Metals company website shows it purchases metals including copper, aluminum, iron, steel and lead; batteries and computer scraps.

State records show the private business was formed in 1999. Owl Metals is currently not in good standing, which means it’s not in compliance with all Maryland business laws. The reason given was a missing annual report from the most recent year, though it has filed such reports in previous years.

Such reports typically include real estate and other basic business information.

Company officials did not respond to requests for comment about the fire.
