A tanker truck rolled over and leaked fuel onto Interstate 695 at Washington Boulevard in Baltimore County on Tuesday morning, closing a section of the inner loop and one lane of the outer loop for hours.

As of 8 p.m., all lanes had been reopened, an agency spokesperson said.

The Baltimore County Fire Department said crews responded to the fuel leak near Halethorpe. The tanker truck was carrying about 7,000 gallons of gasoline and diesel. There were no injuries.

Maryland State Police said officers responded to the rollover on the inner loop of I-695, the Baltimore Beltway, just after 10:30 a.m.

The incident led to the closure of the right three lanes and right shoulder of the inner loop between Interstate 95 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, the Maryland State Highway Administration said on social media.

The left lane of the Beltway’s outer loop near I-95 was also closed, the post said.

A hazmat crew and the Maryland Department of the Environment responded to assist with the fuel spill, officials said.

State police are investigating the cause of the crash.

The rollover came days after a snowstorm dropped several inches of snow and sleet on Maryland and made roadways slick. Temperatures dropped into the single digits overnight on Monday into Tuesday morning.
