Six Amtrak trains scheduled for travel Wednesday were canceled, the company announced Tuesday, as as fallout from the warehouse fire in West Baltimore continues.

Amtrak announced Trains 112, 131, 181, 114, 130 and 119 are cancelled Wednesday, after an already-difficult day on Tuesday for commuters in the region.

Delays persisted through the evening on the MARC Penn Line Tuesday, a busy line that connects Washington to Baltimore and points farther north along the I-95 corridor, after service was suspended for several hours Tuesday morning because of the fire.

Penn Line service resumed around 11 a.m. and is operating on a Saturday schedule, according to the Maryland Transit Administration. Trains are single tracking between Halethorpe and Penn Station stops, and some afternoon trains have been canceled.

“There is also a possibility that operations may be paused briefly this afternoon due to the ongoing fire response,” MTA warned in a service alert.

Several Amtrak trains that run through Baltimore, connecting Washington to New York along the busy Northeast Corridor, were delayed or canceled. Amtrak warned passengers that delays are expected to continue Tuesday, with about 30-60 minute delays for trains between Baltimore and Washington.

Drivers were told to continue avoiding the area around Edmondson Avenue and North Bentalou Street as firefighters work the now-downgraded fire.

More than 200 firefighters responded to the seven-alarm fire Monday night at the multistory warehouse, which abuts the train tracks. Nearby residents were forced to relocate as crews worked from multiple angles to hit the warehouse with water. The fire is contained, but crews continue to put out hot spots.

No injuries were reported in the fire.
