Over the years, it’s felt like the Inner Harbor has lost some of its magic, according to Leanna Wetmore of the Waterfront Partnership.

With a new event series, the organization aims to re-engage the harbor around the holidays and show it’s a fun place even in the cold.

“We always say the harbor is where Baltimore greets the world,” said Wetmore, the group’s director of events and programs. “And we want the world to see who Baltimore really is.”

The series, called “Winter on the Waterfront,” launches this week. It includes existing traditions such as the Inner Harbor Ice Rink, which will return this year to the Inner Harbor Amphitheater. The rink will be open from Nov. 11 until Jan. 16.

It will also feature new events, such as the Baltimore by Baltimore holiday market on Dec. 3, where Baltimoreans can find locally-made holiday gifts.

For one night, the market will “revive” the old H&M space inside Light Street Pavilion, where more than 20 vendors will sell goods made in Baltimore, such as self-care products, art, plants, food and other goods. The vendors are some of the Waterfront Partnership’s favorites from the Baltimore By Baltimore festival series held from June to November to celebrate local musicians and makers, in another attempt to re-engage the harbor, Wetmore said.

The market will run from 3-8 p.m.

That same day, there is the Olde Tyme Christmas in Fells Point, Wetmore said. Kids can take pictures with Santa in the morning, and there will be a a tree lighting in the evening. From 6-8 p.m., families can watch decorated boats float in the Inner Harbor as part of the the Parade of Lighted Boats, hosted by Sail Baltimore.

The Christmas Village at West Shore Park — where attendees can find Christmas gifts, as well as traditional German food and drinks — will also be up and running from Nov. 19 to Dec. 24.

To make the events more accessible on Dec. 3, the Waterfront Partnership is partnering with Arrow Parking to offer $5 discounted parking at the garage at 204 East Lombard St. Organizers rented a water taxi and will be offering rides for a discounted price of $5, Wetmore said.

The finale to the series is another new event, the Lunar Night Cultural Festival, which will be held on Jan. 21 and Jan. 22 with Asian art, food, and performances to celebrate the Lunar New Year, according to a news release.
