Two Baltimore performers will take the stage at the Hippodrome this weekend for the theater’s run of “Jagged Little Pill,” a musical inspired by Alanis Morissette’s 1995 breakthrough album of the same name. Featuring a script by Diablo Cody and new songs from Morissette, the musical is about a family dealing issues like addiction and sexual violence within a culture that encourages them to pretend to be a perfect unit.

This is the first national tour for the musical, which began its run at the Hippodrome on Tuesday and is in town through this weekend. It’s also a homecoming for two performers.

Charles P. Way grew up in Northeast Baltimore, where he discovered his love for singing and dancing. He was a student at the Mid-Atlantic Youth Ballet and the All-County Honors Chorus of Baltimore County. His training in Baltimore prepared him to attend the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Since then, he has performed around the country. Recently he performed at The Met Gala and has brought his talents to many other productions. Way is also a trained aerialist. For this production, he will be the assistant dance captain, and is responsible for ensuring choreography quality.

Jada Clark.

Jada Clark hails from Northwest Baltimore. She grew up in Randallstown and started training with Baltimore Dance Tech at the age of 7. She has trained in various forms of dance and later attended the George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology in Towson as a dance student.

After graduating from Carver, she enrolled at Pace University in New York, where she recently completed her bachelor of fine arts in commercial dance. The program at Pace allowed Clark to take classes in various forms of dance, but also courses in acting and vocal performance.

Clark has taken her experience on the road before “Jagged Little Pill.” She made her theatrical debut in “Rattlesnake Kate,” an original musical that premiered at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.

“Jagged Little Pill” will take the performers across North America until the tour ends in August 2023 in Minneapolis. Until then, Way and Clark will be representing Baltimore on stage and behind the scenes.

“Jagged Little Pill” wraps up its Baltimore run on Sunday. The show will be back Washington, D.C., in March. Tickets are available at baltimore.broadway.com.
