Nacho Mama’s, the self-proclaimed cross between “East Bawlmer and Mexico,” will be ending its 30-year tenure in Maryland come early 2025.

The eatery announced the closure Tuesday, saying they have been “blessed to serve” multiple local communities under their hospitality company known as Mama’s Restaurant Group. Nacho Mama’s, with roots in Baltimore and Baltimore County, is one of two concepts started by the Mama’s team. The other, Mama’s on the Half Shell, which is located in Canton and Owings Mills, will continue to do business.

“This decision has not been easy for us,” said owners Jackie, Darby and Finn McCusker in a statement announcing Nacho Mama’s shuttering. “We have been blessed to serve.”

They went on to say that customers are invited to enjoy a Natty Boh or Hubcap margarita, which is served in a hubcap — a staple of the business — before the doors close on Jan. 12.

Jackie McCusker ran the business with her now late husband, Scunny McCusker, who also started the Pizza and Wing Factory next door in Canton. In their statement, the family made reference to his penchant for jokes and laughter behind the bar.

Over the last three decades, Nacho Mama’s became well-regarded for its Maryland spin on Latin cuisine. Surf and turf infused quesadillas and burritos alongside classic nachos and churros center the menu. Whether in the city’s O’Donnell Street location or at 2 W. Pennsylvania Ave. in Towson, Nacho Mama’s brunch and dinners were a source for hearty local fare.

Despite the closure, the owners said they are hoping to continue growing their restaurant group.

“We are looking forward to continued success,” the family said.
