Sorry to burst your bubble, everyone.

Despite what some circulating messages might say, there is no free admission to the Maryland Zoo next week, zoo officials said Wednesday.

The message, which zoo officials said is from an unaffiliated Facebook page, claims the zoo is free for all visitors from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sept. 18 — but, to be clear, it is not.

Mike Evitts, a spokesperson for the zoo, said they first became aware of the post in mid-August, and as Sept. 18 has gotten closer, they’ve started getting calls and emails asking about the “free day.”

The post says the free admission is related to Free Fall Baltimore, an event from the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts, not the zoo — and is not until later in the year.

Evitts said an incident in late February affected zoos nationwide and involved false advertisements. It offered four tickets to the Maryland Zoo for $6.95.

That scam included a link, he said, and the zoo encouraged people to report the posts about the fake offer.

There are multiple ways to report spam or scam text messages. Many smartphones include it as an option when you delete a text message.

You can also copy an unwanted message and send it to 7726 (SPAM) or report a scam message to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

The FTC says you should never click on links if you get an unexpected text message asking for personal information or financial details.

“Legitimate companies won’t ask for information about your account by text,” the FTC website says. If you think the message is legitimate, use a verified phone number to contact the company.

If you do want to go to the zoo, tickets can be purchased online and start at $33 for children and adults. Kids younger than 2 get in for free.
