Cameron Davis was not pleased with his showing at Shawan Downs last month. He atoned in a big way Tuesday afternoon.
The Calvert Hall junior won his second straight MIAA A Conference cross country individual title and led the Cardinals to the team championship, their third in four years.
“This was one of my goals going into the year to go back-to-back, not a lot of people do it,” said Davis. “Individual championships are nice but the team is more important and I didn’t want to mess it up.”
Davis clocked a solid 15 minutes, 40 seconds on the Baltimore County course, besting rival, Mount St. Joseph’s Charlie Butler (15:54), and Cardinal teammates Rei Rahsann Nettey (16:10) and Ryan Connelly (16:13), respectively.

Calvert Hall (21 points) accounted for half of the top 10, dethroning Loyola Blakefield as team champion. Senior Carter Bruns was the top finisher (5th; ) for the Dons (54).
Davis’ prior effort at Shawan Downs was a fourth-place finish (15:43) at the Maryland XC event in early October. He opened his season with a first-place showing over Butler at the Barnhardt Invitational at Dulaney.
“I knew I could’ve ran much faster than that,” said Davis. “Today, I wanted to go less fast the first mile and surge when I felt strong enough.”
“He won the first race and got a lot of publicity, then it didn’t go so well after that,” said Calvert Hall coach Scott Baker. “He lost a couple, people started to forget about him and maybe he’s the fourth best runner in the state. He really wanted to come here and show people who he was.”
Severn won its second straight MIAA B title. John Carroll senior Andrew Brown won the B individual championship (19:15).
