The midway point of the area high school football regular season starts Thursday with one of the area’s premier rivalries taking place under the lights at Morgan State University.

No. 1 St. Frances takes its national roadshow across the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii. Twelve teams enter the weekend undefeated.

Here’s a look at some of the best games of the weekend followed by the complete schedule.

No. 6 Dunbar (4-0) vs. No. 7 Mervo (3-0)

When: Thursday, 6 p.m

Where: Morgan State University

A battle of defending state champions highlights the rivalry that has defined Baltimore City football the last several years. Dunbar, which has outscored opponents, 212-18, extended its win streak to 17 with a 28-12 Homecoming victory over Dunbar (D.C.)

Mervo, the defending Class 4A/3A state champs, ran its streak to 14 with a 53-6 decision over Patterson. Junior quarterback Raymond Moore threw two touchdown passes, and Malik Woodrum had a touchdown catch and threw for another.

Dunbar, the Class 2A/1A state champs, has won four of the last seven meetings including an epic 48-46 overtime decision at Poly last season. The Poets rallied from a 16-point deficit in the final three minutes of regulation to force overtime.

No. 2 Spalding (4-1) vs. Pallotti (2-2)

When: Friday, 3:30 p.m.

Where: Fairland Regional Park, Laurel

A share of first in the MIAA A Conference will be on the line. Pallotti, which didn’t win a league game in its first season in the league, rallied past Gilman in its league opener last week. Aiden Garrett scored two rushing touchdowns for the Panthers, who received fourth quarter scores from Manny Montout, Zayveon Prince and Temple University commit Nate Stewart.

Spalding continued its impressive run with a 42-7 road demolition of reigning MIAA A champ Calvert Hall. Malik Washington threw three touchdown passes, two to senior wideout Max Moss.

The Cavaliers have won four straight since an opening week loss to nationally-ranked Don Bosco Prep of New Jersey. Spalding defeated Pallotti, 48-0, last year.

Curley (2-2) at No. 8 Concordia Prep (4-1)

When: Friday, 4 p.m.

Defending MIAA B champs Concordia Prep returns to league play. The Saints won their fourth straight since an overtime loss at Gilman with a 35-6 victory over Mount Zion Prep. Keshawn Mister threw three touchdown passes and Darian Hill contributed two scoring catches.

Curley routed Boys’ Latin, 42-7, in its league opener last Friday. Cole Floyd rushed for 179 yards and three touchdowns, and Caron Madison added 176 yards on 17 carries and two scores.

Last year, Concordia defeated Curley, 14-2, in the season opener for both teams.

Arundel (3-1) at Elkton (3-1)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

A pair of 3-1 squads meet in a non-league contest. Arundel routed Glen Burnie, 37-8, in Anne Arundel County last weekend as Tyson Miller scored a pair of touchdowns and Gavin Kamachi threw for another score.

Elkton handed North Harford, 24-3, in an UCBAC Chesapeake match last weekend. Patience Richmond ran for a touchdown and threw for another, and Eli Latshaw had a touchdown pass.

The Elks’ only loss is to undefeated Edgewood. Arundel’s only setback came against Delaware’s Smyrna.

No. 1 St. Frances (4-0) at Kakuku-HI (6-1)

When: Saturday, 1 a.m.

The time isn’t a misprint. The nationally-ranked Panthers’ road tour will make a 10-hour plane ride, covering about 4,800 miles, to Hawaii. There is a six-hour time difference (kickoff 7 p.m. Friday in Hawaii).

St. Frances topped South Carolina power Dutch Fork last weekend. Junior quarterback Michael Van Buren threw two touchdown passes to Kyree Benton and Boston College commit Durell Robinson ran 37 yards for a score.

Kahuku is the defending Hawaii state Open Division champion. The Red Raiders, whose only loss is to California powerhouse St. John Bosco (ranked No. 2 nationally by USA Today), are led by Texas commit Liona Lefau (linebacker) and running back Kainoa Carvalho (committed to Utah).
