NO. 4 CALVERT HALL 35, GILMAN 28

In a MIAA A Conference shootout in Roland Park, No. 4 Calvert Hall squandered leads of 21-0 and 28-7, before a sneak by quarterback Noah Brannock broke a 28-28 tie, late in the third quarter, and the Cardinals hung on for a 35-28 victory over host Gilman.

Calvert Hall opened the game with a bang, as Brannock hit senior Samuel Williams with a slant, on the first snap from scrimmage, and Williams raced 80-yards for the game’s first touchdown. The lead quickly grew to 21-0 when senior Daniel Harper, Jr. (24) rushed 24-yards for a score and the Cardinals’ sophomore Byron Baldwin scored on a 34-yard interception return.

Gilman senior quarterback Matt Parker bounced back from that mistake to get the Greyhounds on the board with a 2-yard touchdown toss to standout junior wide receiver Dejuan Lane, cutting Calvert Hall’s lead to 21-7. It was the first of four touchdown passes for Parker, including three to Lane.

Calvert Hall responded to Gilman’s first score when Brannonck threw a screen pass to Harper, Jr. who took it 20 yards to the end zone, early in the second quarter.

Parker followed with consecutive scoring strikes to Lane, from 17 and 42 yards, as the Greyhounds cut their deficit to 28-21 heading into the half. They then tied the game, early in the third quarter, when sophomore Amir Arnold hauled in a 50-yard touchdown pass from Parker.
