Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson missed practice Wednesday with an ankle injury, adding to concerns about the late-season wear and tear on his lower body.
Coach John Harbaugh said after practice that Jackson’s absence was the “same type of situation” as last Wednesday, when he missed practice with knee soreness. Jackson returned to practice Thursday as a full participant and played every offensive snap in the Ravens’ win Sunday over the Cleveland Browns, though he struggled with his accuracy and was sacked five times.
If Jackson returns to practice Thursday, he’d likely be in line to start Sunday against the New York Jets. He missed three games this season with a Week 4 hamstring injury that sidelined him for about a month.
If Jackson can’t practice this week, backup Tyler Huntley would be expected to start in his place. The Ravens are 1-2 in games Jackson has missed this season, with Huntley securing an important 30-16 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 8.
Harbaugh declined to comment further on the availability of Jackson or the seven other Ravens missing at practice. Left tackle Ronnie Stanley (illness), left guard Andrew Vorhees (foot), wide receiver Rashod Bateman (ankle), tight end Isaiah Likely (calf), inside linebacker Roquan Smith (hamstring), cornerback Keyon Martin (rib) and safety Kyle Hamilton (shoulder/groin) were also absent.

“It’s football,” Harbaugh said. “It’s challenging. And I do appreciate the questions, but there’s really nothing I can tell you. Some guys can practice. Some guys can’t. Some guys we’d rather hold out and get them ready to go. ... It’s the nature of the deal. I know it’s Lamar. It’s our quarterback. I understand how important it is. It wasn’t in his best interests to practice today, and we’ll see where we’re at tomorrow.”
The Ravens (5-5) got good news Wednesday with the return of cornerback Marlon Humphrey (finger) and running back Justice Hill (toe), who missed Sunday’s win. Harbaugh said both looked good in practice, though Humphrey was a limited participant.
The Ravens have won four straight games and are heavy favorites Sunday against the Jets, who are turning to former Raven Tyrod Taylor in place of starting quarterback Justin Fields. The Jets are 2-8 but have won two of their past three games, beating the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8 and the Cleveland Browns in Week 10.
Taylor is 0-1 as a starter this season, losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3, 29-27. In three appearances, he’s 43-for-69 (62.3% accuracy) for 379 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions, along with 14 carries for 80 yards. He’s been sacked nine times.
